The Internet Can’t Forget These Bigfoot Hunting Moments
Some television shows become memorable because of their stories. Others become memorable because of the personalities, unexpected reactions and moments that viewers keep talking about long after an episode ends.
Finding Bigfoot belongs to the second category.
The Animal Planet series followed a team consisting of Matt Moneymaker, James “Bobo” Fay, Cliff Barackman and research biologist Ranae Holland as they investigated reported Bigfoot sightings across different locations. While the program presented the search as a serious investigation, the personalities and unusual situations surrounding the expeditions also gave viewers plenty of moments to remember.
Over time, some of those moments became popular subjects for jokes, reactions and online discussion. But the interesting part is that many of the most memorable moments were not necessarily planned as comedy.
Ranae Holland’s Skeptical Reactions
One of the biggest reasons the show had such a distinctive dynamic was Ranae Holland.
Unlike the other members of the team, Holland approached the subject from a skeptical scientific perspective. In interviews, she explained that she wanted evidence strong enough to establish that Bigfoot was real, while remaining open to investigating unusual reports.
That made her reactions particularly memorable.
When the other investigators became excited about a sound, footprint or possible sighting, Holland often pushed the team to consider alternative explanations. Her role created a natural contrast between belief and skepticism, which became one of the defining features of the program.
In fact, Holland herself described disagreements among the team members and explained that they had different opinions and approaches to the evidence.
For viewers, those exchanges could be entertaining even when the investigators were taking the situation completely seriously.
The “Is It Really Bigfoot?” Moments
Another recurring source of humor came from the uncertainty surrounding unusual sounds and objects discovered during investigations.
The team might hear something in the darkness or notice something through night-vision or thermal equipment, leading to speculation about what could be responsible. But an unexplained observation is not automatically evidence of Bigfoot.
Holland repeatedly emphasized this distinction. In one interview, she discussed situations where possible explanations included ordinary wildlife or other possibilities rather than immediately assuming the source was Sasquatch.
That uncertainty became part of the show's appeal.
For viewers watching from home, the question was often almost as entertaining as the investigation itself:
Was that actually Bigfoot—or something much more ordinary?
When the Investigation Became Unexpectedly Funny
Some of the show's funniest remembered moments came from the investigators themselves rather than from an intentionally comedic scene.
One documented example involves a North Carolina investigation discussed by Holland in an interview. She explained that the team had thermal cameras and had established a plan for dealing with a possible sighting. According to Holland, Matt Moneymaker ran toward a possible figure even though the team had intended to use the cameras and positioning to help determine whether it could be a person.
The story illustrates something that happened repeatedly during the series: the investigators could become extremely excited when they thought they might finally be close to an answer.
That enthusiasm, combined with the uncertainty of nighttime investigations, sometimes produced moments that viewers found unintentionally funny.
The Cast’s Different Personalities
The show's popularity was not based only on Bigfoot itself.
Each member of the team brought a different personality and approach to the investigation. Moneymaker was strongly convinced that Sasquatch existed, while Holland maintained a more skeptical position. Bobo and Cliff brought their own field experience and enthusiasm to the investigations.
That combination created plenty of disagreement, excitement and unexpected reactions.
Holland has said that the four team members had very different skill sets and that disagreements were natural because everyone was passionate about the subject. At the same time, she emphasized that they respected one another despite their differences.
That chemistry is a major reason individual moments from the series remain recognizable to longtime viewers.
Why the Show Became Meme Material
It would be difficult to identify a single officially recognized “Finding Bigfoot meme” that represents the entire internet. Much of the show's meme culture developed organically through viewers, fan communities and online discussions.
But the ingredients were already there.
You had mysterious nighttime sounds, dramatic reactions, thermal-camera footage, arguments over evidence and a team that could interpret the same situation very differently.
Add the repeated question of whether the latest clue could finally be Bigfoot, and the format naturally created moments that viewers could turn into jokes and reaction images.
Online discussions from the show's era also show viewers joking about specific scenes and exaggerated reactions from the investigators.
That does not mean every joke became a major viral meme. Instead, it shows how the show's unusual combination of serious investigation and unpredictable personalities encouraged viewers to create their own humor around it.
The Mystery Was Still the Main Attraction
Despite the jokes, it is important not to overlook why people watched the series in the first place.
Bigfoot remains an unconfirmed subject. The show investigated reported sightings and unusual evidence, but a television investigation does not establish that an unknown animal actually exists.
Even Holland, who was fascinated by the subject, repeatedly stressed the importance of evidence. She described herself as skeptical while remaining interested in investigating reports and unexplained observations.
That balance between curiosity and skepticism helped make the show more than just a search through the woods.
Why Fans Still Remember the Moments
Years after the show's original run, people still remember the personalities and situations that made Finding Bigfoot different from a straightforward wildlife program.
The combination was unusual:
A mysterious creature.
A skeptical scientist.
Passionate investigators.
Dark forests.
Strange sounds.
Thermal cameras.
And plenty of unexpected reactions.
Whether viewers believed in Bigfoot or simply enjoyed watching the investigation unfold, those ingredients created moments that were easy to remember—and, eventually, easy to turn into internet humor.
Perhaps that is the real reason the show's memorable moments continue to attract attention.
The investigators went into the wilderness looking for evidence of something they could not definitively prove existed. Instead, along the way, they created a collection of unforgettable television moments that viewers continue to discuss, joke about and remember.
And sometimes, on the internet, that can be almost as powerful as finding the creature itself.
